What causes pregnancy trouble?
No matter if this is your first pregnancy or your fifth pregnancy you are always going to worry about how things are progressing. However, chances are if you have made it into your second trimester with nothing going wrong, everything is going to be fine. However, there are those rare cases when things do go wrong this late in the pregnancy, so it is always a good idea to know what to watch out. The sooner you spot pregnancy trouble the better, for both you and your unborn baby!
Here are a few things that you need to keep an eye out for in your second trimester.
Vaginal Bleeding – During your first trimester, it is not unusual to have a bit of light spotting, especially after intercourse. If it is light spotting, you really don’t have much to worry about. However, if you have a lot of bleeding in the first trimester chances are good that it is a miscarriage, while bleeding in the second trimester can signal a problem with the placenta or even premature labor.
Leaking Fluid – If you have fluid leaking from your vagina during the second trimester you need to call your doctor right away, as his s something to be concerned about. Leaking fluid can mean that your water has broken prematurely, but can also mean you have an incompetent cervix. In either case, you need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible to discuss what needs to be done.
Contractions – These are troublesome if they are what health care professionals refer to as regular and measureable. If they are not on a regular basis, meaning they are random and sporadic they are often Braxton Hicks, which are quite normal. If you are experiencing contractions, especially more than six in an hour, that could be a sign of premature labor.
Abdominal Pain – Whether it is severe pain or just really bad cramping this is something to be concerned about, as long as it is consistent, as it can signal you are in labor.
Severe Nausea/Vomiting – This is one of those things that you should worry about, but only if they are being caused by something worrisome. If everybody in the house has been sick and now you are then there is nothing to worry about. However, if you don’t know why you are vomiting you will want to call your doctor to have them get to the cause before you start worrying. If you find you cannot keep anything own, including fluids, call your doctor, as there is a risk of dehydration.
Headaches, blurred vision, or extreme dizziness – If you ever suffer from any of these, you need to call your doctor, as they can be a sin of a pregnancy complication or just an illness. However, it is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to you and your unborn babies health.
